Hello weevils!
I am back for yet another fantastic community rant (the rant that keeps on giving) and this time, it is about attitudes that the modern community come up with that oppose the older version of the game and possibly why they might like the work 55Pixels are doing that is leading up to Bin Weevils closing as we speak.
Now, before I get into detail, I'd like to start off with how this community sees that removing some of our features isn't really that much of a big deal. Now, as you may know from last night, the loved and most popular BBC Channel, BBC Three saw it's last breath on television as it shut down and became an online channel (which obviously won't be the same). Me myself, hate the BBC but this channel is what made me want to bother interacting with them. So throughout these paragraphs below, I will be comparing the love of BBC Three to the love of Bin Weevils. Now, you may argue that one is a TV Channel and one is a game so before you say so, I'd just like to clarify that in this scenario, it is the comparison to the love itself and not what the things are. Without further adieu, let's get into detail.
1. No past experience
Yet it is completely clear that the current generation of people haven't even experienced the social joy of the older game though they argue with the older generation and start saying things such as 'The modern bin is what we see BW as, and that taking it away from us would be just like what happened when the old bin changed'. This is a phrase said by the majority of naive people in the community and even Swathe for the matter as he attempted to explain the whole issue behind what 55Pixels are doing. Now, with a comparison to BBC Three: would you think taking it off the ridiculous internet full of easy piracy and putting it back on the TV would be a swell idea? Well what if a person from the 2050 generation comes out with things like the modern Bin Weevils generation does? How would you think? This is exactly what the naive children of today need to (and I hope to) think because I know that even the generation of today had a lot of love towards the TV channel so maybe they'll understand the true experience of getting something taken away.
2. Being brainwashed
Now this may sound extreme but as we all know, Bin Weevils in the current day like the idea of the developers being able to interact with players. Now, this isn't a problem or anything, the problem starts when people mis-analyse what type of people they are from reading what they say. I will admit, the moderators unicron7022 and drewbian are nice (95% of the time anyway, 5% of it is rudeness) but it doesn't change the fact that they could be lazy do-nothing workers does it? The 55Pixels staff come on a lot with their crappy flash mobs greeting players and I'm afraid people are presuming that they are working well and doing the right thing for the game. Now, from my Toontown comparison in my last post, we can clearly see that 55Pixels are going towards the game failing and closing. Being nice doesn't in any way mean removing the features we once loved is a good idea. If the right winged BBC shoved a wad of money in your pocket, does it say closing BBC Three was a good idea? No! The money would obviously pleasure you but wouldn't solve the problems around you. To put in Bin Weevils terms, the generous conversation that tombalol had with you wouldn't solve the problem of why they ignore 99% of the players and why they removed our beloved areas.
3. Trust
Without a doubt as a game, these players in the modern society are going to trust the Bin Weevils Team as of course, they simply haven't been let down by them like the old generation did and because they believe what they are doing is right as what should happen in a game. The easy brainwashing makes it easier for people to be able to trust 55Pixels and likely not us because of the fact of having a friendly interaction which makes you feel that they are fully nice people. Due to us being angry at what they say to the old generation, they start not trusting us and start blocking us on twitter and see us as abusive as they compare our anger with the generosity given from 55Pixels. The same point from the paragraph above applies here as all this misinterpretation is giving people inaccurate thoughts. Now, in the BBC Three words: would you trust the BBC with their future entertainment after shutting down the most adored channel of entertainment? How would you respond if someone from the 2050 generation started trusting the BBC while you know not to trust them due to them stabbing YOU in the back? These are things that need to be thought by this new generation of people that think it is okay to spend an entire month of work on logging in and going AFK while the flash object (aka the weevil) gets mobbed.
So here, I end my super long rant. I just hope the new generation who loved BBC Three can understand how we feel about what 55Pixels are doing as they have now seen something greatly enjoyed burn down to the ground. I mean, this new online BBC Three is representing the change of Bin Weevils in 2010 with things such as loved shows being removed, just like King of The Bin but in BBC's case, they can't legally show the things like Family Guy and American Dad online so I'll give them that. But it never occurred to me that it would be against the law for Bin Weevils to remove King of The Bin as part of their new bin.
Before I close off, I will say that BBC were more aware of people not wanting BBC Three to go due to it being easily imagined. Bin Weevils however was a change which could have lots of possibilities on how it should go but on the other hand, they were told in advance of things like waiting for things to deliver and health bars which I wouldn't be surprised if it did lead people into wanting to keep it the same.
I will miss what Bin Weevils was, it may have been 6 years ago but seeing what it has became makes me want to end all hope. BBC Three has been such a great channel I've watched throughout my life so I'll certainly miss that as well.
That's it for this post!
