Hello weevils!
This post is about the complaints targetted at an update recently released by The Bin Weevils Team. This update was very special as it involved having the ability to add more buddies to your buddy list; which was an update all of us had been asking for on numerous occasions in which I will be ranting on how people responded to this.
On the day this update was released, I came across several weevil screaming 'This update is sit' (with 'sit' being 's**t' but adapted so that it can be seen on the chat filtering) and I myself wasn't very happy at how people were responding. Let me explain.
55Pixels had actually reached out to what everyone was asking for in which is an extremely rare thing to happen. When they actually listen to their players, they deserve a majority of good feedback so that we can show them how much better result creating our ideas is than creating the opposite.
Now, I am aware that there were drawbacks to how they executed this new update. They did things like moving the buddy list to the virtual phone in which had an awful colourful design with no mouse over descriptions and the fact that the list was displayed smaller with the fact you couldn't even look up the weevil's profile without having to visit the original buddy list which half of it had been deserted and left there. Now, when they do things like that, I do think you should remind them of not what to do but rather than delivering the usual aggression, you should deliver it as more like a simple comment in which you should tell them that having the ability to add more buddies was amazing and show how much you appreciate that factor. If you show them mostly positive feedback for the part that involved listening to us, it will warm their hearts and will show them how much listening to us does and may trigger them to listen to us more as they may enjoy the immense good feeling we give them from our reviews.
The Bin Weevils Team are the type of people who get emotional over anger and criticism said towards them when they go by the opposite to what we say and that of course gives them the impression that us players are nothing but heartless thugs. Times like when they do listen to us (even if it takes over 3 years in which the update just involves changing a line of code like this one) gives us the opportunity to show them who we really are and illustrates to them how features like area revamps just simply make us angry and that we are not simply bad people.
One thing in the immense criticism of this recent update was actually the fact that the game went buggy and laggy. Now, in 55Pixels' defense; games do actually go a bit bugged when it comes to adding new features to the server and for as much as people have been saying that they should have tested this privately before releasing it to the public, 55Pixels may have actually tested it beforehand but since they can't privately test the feature being in an environment of over 2,000+ people, they would actually have to publicly release it and would have to face expected bugs that may result in the process of the update. Now, do I trust them working hard trying to resolve the issues made? Not really because of several things they still haven't yet fixed.
When 55Pixels create things revolving round what players ask for, it branches them off to creating other things which I can say we can appreciate such as when creating the ability to increase the buddy limit, they also added a feature where you can search the weevil database and can send requests to any existing weevil without having to meet them. I also like how they improved the private message system in which conversations had with a particular weevil are now sectioned out and filtered; making it easier to find certain messages rather than all the messages sent to you being mixed up. The only thing they haven't yet learned is their use of design as the colours and layout they have used are simply what I would call work of a primary school student.
So yes, when they listen to us when it comes to new ideas, give them the benefit of the doubt and please just cool off when it comes to commenting on the disadvantages they have created. Updates like this aren't updates like the Time Portal in which was supposed to be a return of a past existing feature in which they messed up. Updates like that should, in my opinion, result in a response of 80/20 anger (20% of it being relief depending on how much on a scale they ruined the return) and new updates asked for by most of the community should have 25/75 anger to the maximum; even if it takes 5 freaking years to arrive.
We need to show 55Pixels the true meaning of Bin Weevils and by showing them the joy of experiencing updates we all asked for, we can hopefully get them to make the game we all enjoy once again!
That's it for this post!
