Hello weevils!
Long time no see! It sure has been a while since I last made a post here whereby Rant Central's time was cut short due to a major personal incident which caused a great reset in my life. But, enough about that because as you know, the moment we've all been expecting has finally occurred (well, in some form any way since the game technically is accessible if you adjust your date and time settings at the time of writing this) and unfortunately, this one last post will also have to be a rant because of the very nature by which the game has seen it's death.
After this site closed, Bin Weevils actually got way worse than I could have ever expected. Worse to the extent that it wasn't even a dead game walking anymore; it was a dead game no longer moving with the whips of Best Nest and Garden of the Week (with a very short list of entries) alongside a few codes (including the giveaway of very valuable trophies which although I fulfil my former dream of achieving a GLAMM/MUDD trophy, it is an utter insult to those who put the effort in to achieve them) trying to embarrassingly keep it running rather than just letting it die there and then in 2018 - when 55Pixels actually had a manageable team (and oh boy am I looking forward to going over the developments of this now bankrupt company further on in this post!).
And unbelievingly enough, they couldn't even be bothered to give us a nice send off like the ways various other ground-breaking online MMOs had such as Club Penguin, Toontown Online, Moshi Monsters and even Polarworld for flips sake which didn't even make it to Beta! Moreover, such popular online games also provided everyone with a free membership for a month to get everything sorted and see it off fully but 55Pixels couldn't be bothered to disable tycoon purchases all the while they shut off being able to create a new account and even shut off the chat - meaning we couldn't even properly say our goodbyes to one another in-game during it's final official day (though I guess it's very symbolic in relation to the fact players were never really listened to so I guess it's inevitable that we're silenced completely at the end):

Although thankfully, everyone additionally got together earlier during the new years and gave it a wonderful goodbye there and then:
It was honestly great to see so many familiar faces swing by (however there were still a good deal of faces that were sadly absent) when you'd think everyone would have forgotten about Bin Weevils since the game's population generally became very sparse - another aspect which was very hurtful for various long-time players to see.
It is truly a sad state of affairs that Bin Weevils had to be closed by the case of Adobe Flash Player discontinuing alongside no post what so ever regarding the closure of the game. 55Pixels has essentially let this game die by itself and allow the rot to finish it off rather than end it on a lighter note. I always love the prospect of an independent, small company taking charge but honest to God, there is no gaming company as incompetent, ignorant and unprofessional as 55Pixels. They pretty much hijacked the profits generated from an online game that was loved by many so that they could invest in their own cash cow mobile games which not only cut management and drew a lot of well-needed attention away from Bin Weevils, but didn't even succeed and provide anything worth value - notably the likes of 'Bin Weevils Connect' and the huge waste of time game called 'Weevil World' which sadly also fell victim to death at such a young age; during the time you think the game should be growing and blooming. 55Pixels completely shafted their community and consistently ignored the best wishes of many loyal players, choosing to style the game by the way they personally like it rather than go by the designs most cherished by a wonderfully built-up player base. Bin Weevils sadly died an ugly mess with unfinished content, appalling graphics and became very vulnerable to the extent that hackers could boot players off and send moderator warning messages saying completely anything to anyone. However, declining populations and hacking issues have been notable problems occurring in many online games when they're on their way out and 55Pixels genuinely didn't have the resources and staff to manage these problems so I can't necessarily hold them completely accountable for all the insecurities that occur, especially when 55Pixels literally shrunk largely over the past 2-3 years. As for moderator james, the last staff member to have remained at 55Pixels: although I do think you could have had the dignity to post some kind of goodbye message on the news blog and allow people to actually chat on a game you have dedicated 13 years of your life to, you will always go down as one of the honourable staff members at that naïve company and I very much admire your honesty about not being able to fix the serious problems (which is a great contrast compared to previous incidents whereby 55Pixels have tried to cover up the problems and hide the fact they are too short staffed such as the data breach which was clearly covered up with the announcement of a pointless, unfinished area known as 'Nest Street') and I am so grateful that you emotionally opened up and shared your perspective of hardship faced at the company and quite frankly, yes, 55Pixels has faced some backlash against the community which has been too far such as personal attacks against the staff and I am sure that the various major exploits that have happened to Bin Weevils also delivered you all a great deal of stress and it was morally wrong for you to have gone through all that. However, I do think you could also recognise that the game's decline was also greatly associated with the non-stop incompetent service provided that turned Bin Weevils into a game we don't even recognise anymore as well as a complete laughing stock from outsiders when you take in the factor of YouTuber Memelous showing a large audience the version of the game post-2014. The main people in charge of Bin Weevils drove the players away, not the hacked mushrooms at Flum's Fountain and the moderator message exploit came about when the population was already in major decline.
Despite all the damage caused by 55Pixels to the game that we all built many fond memories of and made many wonderful friends on, the Bin Weevils we most fondly remember will still live on in our brains, and in our hearts (that includes Tory players. See? No political bias!). What I have learned from all this is that no matter how bad you tarnish a game (and 55Pixels did a truly terrible job at running Bin Weevils - there is no exaggeration when I say that EA has competition for most incompetent gaming companies although in all fairness to 55Pixels, at least you weren't a corporate giant capable of delivering the very best) and drive away a great deal of it's audience, you can never kill it's community as shown here and through various other games as mentioned that have also faced closure. It is truly amazing to look back and see a timeline stretching across as far back as 12 years and establishing a lot of great moments and meeting amazing people who I could never dream of where I grew up and all on the one same weevil, and one unique look that I have kept since 2008. I am satisfied with my many great achievements that I have made from winning a great deal of contests to making a name in the community from assistance from my good friend callum390 alongside revolutionary YouTube videos which to this day, that I love to look back on and wish that I could have been able to keep the ball rolling. Bin Weevils was practically a huge part of my life and really helped me get through the most hardest times in life. I have met so many great friends and just wish I could list every single person that I have came across over the years but I have honestly met so many wonderful people (you know who you all are though!) and have even been able to even find love which can only ever get better - further reinforcing how much of an effect that this one, now sadly shitty online game has had on my life. Even though on this blog, I have long called for this game to close for the sake of the state it was in but regardless of how broken and beyond repair it has become, it will always be a moment of sadness to be seeing off a platform which covered a great portion of your life. However, it is also a moment of hope and relief as the community may soon have it's opportunity to manually build the Bin Weevils we wanted to see and its great that 55Pixels will no longer be making money from a brand it so severely destroyed.
With that in mind, I am also rather satisfied that 55Pixels also got their comeuppance and karma for their efforts of showing a large disrespect towards it's community and subscribers and quite frankly, you deserve to face liquidation. Maybe had you made content with the player's best interests in mind from the beginning, you may still be here as a company, potentially being able to invest in a further project or mobile app that a very happy and united community could have gotten behind to help make a name for it. You instead took your only loyal fans for granted and now you face the consequences. But, despite our various indifferences, I do wish everyone well and I'm more than sure that you don't act like the overexaggerated, satirical depictions of 55Pixels staff members as shown in my videos. May I pay tribute to james for spending an immense amount of years and dedication to the game. May I also pay tribute to Swathe for being one of the only staff members to reach out and take the words of the community seriously and it is unfortunate that you were only ever given a small role which didn't last all that long. I would also like to pay tribute to gene_simmons, another great staff member alongside pay my most gratitude to Myke Crosby and Amelia Johnson for making this long journey possible in the first place. And although I never particularly found the moderation skills from the likes of unicron7022 and drewbian all that impressive, they were still kind people to have great conversations with about various topics outside the world of Bin Weevils and I do appreciate the engagement you could have with them on Twitter - even though they did pathetically block accounts that showed a dissatisfaction towards the way the game has gone and haven't treated players the greatest when it comes to Bin Weevils concerns. And although I despised the way he decided to draw ugly scenery based on his own personal likes which you wouldn't ever see in a game called 'Bin Weevils', tombalol was still a friendly figure who always used to greet me back. And finally, who could forget Bipolarise? Another fond staff member I would like to pay tribute to for being one of the only staff who could engage with the players in-game extremely well and I will definitely won't forget the photo we took of me, you and a few good friends together at Bin Pet's Paradise. There has shamefully been a lot of bad over the years, but there has also been a lot of good that is worth noting.
It has been a pleasure providing a heavy voice of opposition against the direction Bin Weevils was going, and as things have gone, I think I can safely declare that the verdict of 'I told you so' has thus been reached. I have enjoyed providing input through many fan platforms and getting to know so many of you - I don't know where I'd be without you all sometimes. It has been a wonderful journey which I'd be happy to relive again if I could. Even the 2010-2013 era of Bin Weevils which was so greatly criticised for the ways it removed a lot of great features was still a truly great time overall, especially when we are provided with an excellent example as to how the game can get real awful upon the formation of 55Pixels from 2014. This site shall remain as a remarkable example and illustration of how not to approach a gaming community and shall serve as a lesson to those staff members which ran Bin Weevils into the ground.
Why not comment on your best memories alongside your own personal viewpoint on the overall evolution of the game? And, as they always say...
FALL IN, AND FLIP OUT!
BIN WEEVILS - 2003*/2007-2021

Thank you all, for everything :) Goodbye.
